Contribution Import

Post by showtyme »

I've just recently taken over the offerings data entry for our church. The person who did it before used a completely different program (offering helper). I have all the files from this program, but would rather not have to enter all the information (names and addresses), and would kind of like to have the history easily accessible in Powerchurch. Is there a way to import all that data? Keeping in mind that I've now completed 2 years of Powerchurch Accounting (might some history mess up some old Accounting information??).

Please let me know as soon as possible so I can begin entering this year's data... Thank you.

Unfortunately, there is no way to import such data into Powerchurch due to the many different data types and records used by such other systems.

that's fine. After I posted the question, I determined which files need to be imported into Powerchurch for the names and addresses, and am now in the process of converting at least that portion of the data. Other than that, I will have a backup of the other program and it's detail, in case I ever need to go back into it and retrieve it. Thanks for the response though.

A second question is whether there is any way to have a look into the database files that Powerchurch uses in it's program?

Ah ... you didn't mention that you wanted to import the Family Mailing List data. However, this does not import data into the Personal Profiles area which ties the envelope to the individiual.

Powerchurch is based on Foxpro, so you would need a Foxpro ODBC driver to look at the data in the tables.

I forget, but the Powerchurch staff can convert a database from other programs, but I'm not sure how much they can bring over. I'd give them a call to find out exactly what they can or can't do, and what the cost is.
