Contributions to small Sunday School funds, etc.

Post by LL-EDENCOB »

I am new to PowerChurch, just became Treasurer, and just now setting up PowerChurch On-line for our Church for the year 2009.
How do we handle contributions such as the following:
A) Envelope #20 contributes $100 for Tithes and Offerings, which is our main contribution fund, and envelope #20 also contributes $15 to their Sunday School, which maintains a small informal fund for outreach.
Envelope #20 wants to record that the Sunday School contribution has been given, but the $15 is never actually deposited into the main checking account. How do we handle this? or can PowerChurch handle this situation correctly?

Powerchurch can handle this function by setting up a Contribution fund without setting up a link to any debit or credit account. This will make sure that no transactions are created when posting contributions.

That said, I would not do it this way, but have the Sunday School issue its own contribution report. I, personally, would not enter any contribution where I have not personally seen the funds, and deposited them myself.

FWIW ... unless the Sunday School has its own bank account, treasurer and auditors, I'd make sure that any contributions that are given toward the Sunday School go through the contributions secretary or treasurer, and deposited in the church bank account.
