Trial Balance Does Not Balance

Post by PJ »

:( Help! I have an out of balance condition that exists with our Trial Balance. It is caused by a journal entry that was originally entered in the February 2006 accounting period that has lost the CR side of the entry.

The original entry was as follows:

DB 01-2476-000 $1,404.46
DB 01-2478-000 $ 139.71
CR 01-2477-000 $1,404.46
CR 01-2477-000 $ 139.71

The Trial Balance is out of balance a total of $1,923.57 which equals the beginning balance in the 01-2477-000 of $377.40+$1,404.46+139.71=$1,923.57. The DB side of the entry shows up on the Account Activity Report for January - April 2006 but the CR side is missing. And the Trial Balance shows the following details:

01-2476-000 CR $0.00 Balance
01-2477-001 DB $0.00 Balance
01-2477-001 DB $0.00 Balance
01-2477-002 CR $0.00 Balance
01-2478-000 CR $0.00 Balance

The original transaction is not listed at all on the posted transactions listing, and when I try to reindex the accounting system I receive a message that there is an error in the chart of accounts.

I have a problem in the the February accounting period has already been closed, and our backup is corrupted! So, the questions I have are as follows:

1) How do I restore the 2 CR entries that are missing from the original transactions?

2) How do I get the original balances back in the accounts that were included in the original entry?

3) When things are back in balance will the reindexing process be successful?

Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide concerning this out of balance condition in our Trial Balance.
Sincerly,
