Allergies - Custom Reports

I have created a custom report that captures allergies and medical conditions, but when I export the report to excel the field simply reads memo. However if you hover over the word memo the details show up on the screen. How can I get the details of the allergy or medical condition to display in the excel field so I can incorporate it into my larger excel report?
