Deceased Member's name appearing on screen

Post by dcc »

I'd like to see if a member is deceased when viewing the Personal Profile LOCATE screen in Version 9.

The only solution I can think of is typing (Deceased) after a person's first name in His/Her Personal Profile Screen. Then when I view the LOCATE screen I'll see something like this: Doe Jane (Deceased) 123 Anystreet

Is this the best way to mark my Deceased? Also, if I upgrade to Version 10, is there a better way to do this?

Thanks

There is no way to display this type of info on the locate screen currently. What we do is have a personal status code of member-deceased and mark the profiles with that.

That said, the locate dialogue shows all the personal profiles, not just members. What would be a suggestion to the developers is to add a column if possible to show the personal status code.

Thank you Neil for responding so quickly.

I do have members marked Deceased on their Status code, but it would be so convenient to have their code appear on the LOCATE screen. I was just trying to find a way to see if they were deceased without having to dig deeper into their profile screen.

The additional column would be perfect. We'd be able to tell what type of Member a person is without having to pull up their Profile information screen. Do you know if this will be an option in Version 10?? If not, I may go ahead and type Deceased by their first name in the Profile Info screen as a quick fix.

Thanks again.

It is not a current option in v.10, but I suspect that the developers at Powerchurch will see this thread and possibly add it to the wish list for v.11 .

This information does display in version 10.4. When you select a profile in the locate screen the following data is displayed at the bottom of the window.

Name
Pers. Status - here you can mark the member deceased
Address
Phone numbers

and a picture, if there is one in the profile.

Thanks, I'm usually looking for a specific person when I use Locate, so I never really think about that area. That said, if someone is specifically looking to find only deceased members, or other profile statuses to select them, having the additional column would help, rather than accessing each line using an arrow key or mouse.

Thank you Tom for the info about Version 10.4. Sounds like a good reason to upgrade from Version 9.

Is there a way to make them not show up in Personal Profiles? I know you can do that in reports, but it is terrible when you are looking things up and come across someone you knew had passed and were marked deceased, but I would like to know if there is a way to . . . hide their profile?

The only way to do that is to delete the profile. That said, any such data must be kept for at least 3 years when they have contributions listed against their envelope number, so you really can't remove them immediately.

This data is often needed for tax purposes for the estate, as well as for historical data for the IRS if necessary.
