I know - there are a lot of email set up issues.....

Still working on my initial set up and now focusing on getting email established on Powerchurch version 11.55, running on windows 7 computer, using a gmail address. I use Google to access my mail - not Outlook.
In attempting to set up the email access from PC, I've used smtp.gmail.com:465 for outgoing server, and my email / password information, along with SSL.

I'm using Norton 360 firewall and antivirus, and have verified that Powerchurch is allowed access to internet.....
I'm getting this as my error report - got any suggestions?

The error says that evidently Gmail is not accepting the userid & password.

The email setup appears to be what you have:

Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com
Requires authentication: Yes
Username: Your full gmail address
Password: Your password
Security: SSL

Some people get it working without issue with these settings. Others need to define the specific port. If these settings as above do not work for you, try adding the port number to the end of the SMTP address:

Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com:465

You can access your Gmail using a web browser, right ?? One of the things listed on that Google page is that it talks about 2-step verification. If you have that turned on for your email, that may be causing the error, as that capability (I don't believe) is setup in Powerchurch's SMTP engine.

You were dead on...

After several attempts at using my existing email account for a test at home, using power church on home computer, I elected to try another approach.... and was successful. Here is what I did - hope this can help others......

Set up a new gmail account on home computer as church treasurer. Entered the new email and password, SMTP settings and security as shown on Powerchurch website and your email. (FYI ---- I didn't need to add the port setting of 465).

This worked like a charm.

Hopefully when I load this info up on church computer software copy, it will work there as well. I suspect I'll have some sort of restriction there as well. But, If it doesn't work, I'll set up ANOTHER email account from that computer and use that only for financial / donor report transmissions - and will just notify the membership to expect that new address for report emails.

Again, this worked perfectly - once I checked the "email contribution reports" box under "maintain personal profiles" (in contact area), and added donor email addresses.

I think what is happening is that gmail restricts Powerchurch access (for current email addresses) from my home computer. I tried to find the setting in gmail to allow Powerchurch access - but could not.

So ---- an alternative for PC users may just be to set up a new gmail account on the primary computer being used for running Powerchurch and then ------- try that new address out in the Powerchurch email set up window. Worked perfectly for me. It also worked for sending a balance sheet test report as well.

Greg .. did you send the balance sheet out to a group ?? If not, Powerchurch will use the existing email program on the computer to send one email out.

Neil, have not sent out to a group yet, but did see the option to do so.

For today's test, i just sent my contribution report and a balance sheet to my address. Successful day...! Thx again for your help.

Um ... if you only sent to one address, I'm fairly sure that Powerchurch uses any default mail program on the computer. So, if this computer is used by the office to send/receive emails using Outlook, that is the email engine that it will use.

The true test is sending to 3 or 4 addresses ..

Neil, finally got around to setting up PowerChurch email on a new computer. Used the MS Outlook email client. Sent out to a small group - 4-5 addresses, and everything worked. Thx for your help.

The small group of 4 or 5 addresses used the built-in SMTP system, Outlook will only be used if you're sending to one person.
