Re: Reposting multi-year prepaid pledge payments
First, thanks for answering so quickly. Ah, I communicated poorly. I understand that from the donor's standpoint it is all cash basis. The donor statement is correct from a cash basis donation/tax standpoint. I was trying to fix the bottom part where it shows all of his payments as contributions tow...

Reposting multi-year prepaid pledge payments
Donor gives a donation of $1,000 in November 2024. It was their 2025 pledge. Donor gives a donation of $2,000 in December 2024. The donor says it is a 2026 pledge. We recorded both contributions against their 2025 pledge. Now it is November 2025. Their 2025 Contribution Statement shows: $0 tax contr...

Re: Contributions received after 12/31
Thanks, Neil. You have given me advice on how to deal with the system and some checks dated in various years. You also answered what I was really looking for which is to not go through the exercise of making a separate backdated deposit. You have further stated that, in your experience, you have let...

Contributions received after 12/31
The IRS allows taxpayers to deduct checks mailed before 12/31. But what are the requirements on churches? Let me give you an example. 12/31 was a Sunday. I did a deposit dated 12/31. Took it to the night depository. Every check on that deposit received credit in 2023. What about next week's deposit?...

Re: Once a year accounting report for the national church
I have worked with Custom Reports a little more. I can include "Notes" in the report but anything in there shows up as "Memo" instead of the value I entered. In the case of account 5622, I entered "17". Have requested this as a "Wish List" kind of thing. Also requested that they open up the database...

When is Power Church Online updating to version 14?
Upon login, I occasionally get a notice that Power Church Online will update to version 14. I think the date given was in February. The notice doesn't say I have to do anything. In other parts of the forum, I see there are a number of maintenance releases which means that version 14 is up and runnin...

Once a year accounting report for the national church
The national church wants an income statement of 16 lines. They want all funds combined. Many/most accounts will be combined in a line called "All other operating expenses." I could export the data into a spreadsheet and do some sort of pivot table, once I manually identify which line item it goes t...

Posting Unrealized Appreciation of Long Term Investments below the line
In most chart of accounts and therefore income statements (Statement of Activities) we have income (revenues) then expenses, then a net number. I have a situation where the church wants to have income, then expenses, then a subtotal that we will call Operating Income. Then they will show Unrealized ...

How to reprint previous year W-2s
Select Accounting, then Accounting Reports, then Payroll. No W-2s. Where do I find them? Select Accounting, then Payroll, then Reports - Payroll. No W-2s. Select Accounting, then Payroll, then Tax Reporting, then W-2. I get a few messages. One of them is that "Only 2020 forms and efiling are support...

Payroll is on a service. Need someone to do bookkeeping remotely. Then I need to find someone to produce checks locally. I can do all of this but I am wondering if those of you who are doing this are happy? Please tell me about your experiences doing this. Thanks.

Accounting Theory on carryover funds
FASB's don't cover this. Our Church's National does not give guidance to this level of detail. Our board of directors are clueless about accounting - which is fine. My gut tells me some carryover is good but I want conversation on those that are bad. By "carryover" I mean items in the operating inco...

Creating reserve funds vs operating expenses
I want to ask how people account for things on their operating fund statement. This has nothing to do with IRS rules. This has to do with communicating to the parishioners in a clear way. I want to pose a few situations and ask if you set up a separate fund (S), use a liability account (L) or run it...

Re: Payroll Service vs Power Church payroll processing
NZ thanks. I hadn't considered that anyone would want to make an extra trip to pick up their check, then go to the bank or use some mobile app to deposit their check. Especially if they are a part-time employee. But you are right, some may not want to give us their account info. Hopefully, this is t...
