Installing the USB Check Reader


Connecting the Mini MICR USB Check Reader

Please note: This article applies to older model MagTek Mini MICR check readers. The newer Keyboard Emulation model (#22523009) has no drivers to install and should work in any environment without installation.

  1. Turn on the computer.
  2. Connect the provided USB cable to your computer.
  3. Connect the 9-pin DIN connector to the check reader.
  4. Connect the AC power adapter to the check reader, then to the wall outlet or power strip.
  5. The LED indicator on the check reader should be green and remain lit.
  6. The first time the check reader is connected, the USB driver will need to be installed. (See the following section)

Installing the USB Driver

The USB driver is included on the enclosed CD labeled Mini MICR USB Drivers. This installation is only necessary the first time the check reader is connected to the computer. If you don't have the original install CD, the drivers can be downloaded from our website at https://www.powerchurch.com/downloads.

  1. After the check reader has been connected, the Add/Found New Hardware Wizard will start automatically.
  2. If prompted to connect to Windows Update, choose No and click Next.
  3. Insert the Mini MICR USB Drivers CD.
  4. Choose the "Recommended" option and click Next.
  5. If prompted to choose a location, choose the CD-ROM drive and click Next.
  6. If an information page is displayed, click Next.
  7. The Wizard should complete automatically. Click Finish when prompted. You may be required to restart the computer after the installation is complete.

THE FOLLOWING STEPS APPLY ONLY TO USERS OF VERSIONS 8.5, AND POWERCHURCH ONLINE

Installing the MICRSend Program 

  1. With the Mini MICR USB Drivers CD still in the drive, click the Start button, then Run.
  2. Click on the Browse button and change the "look in" to the drive containing the CD.
  3. Double click the MICRSEND folder.
  4. Double click the Setup.exe file.
  5. Click OK on the Run dialog box.
  6. Click OK on the first screen and click the Install button at the top of the screen.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. If you receive a Version Conflict message, click Yes.
  9. Click OK.

Before Using the Check Reader with PowerChurch Plus versions 8.5, 9, and PowerChurch Online

Each time you want to use the check reader with PowerChurch Plus, you will need to perform the following steps before opening the Check Reader screen.

  1. Click the Start button, then open the MagTek program group.
  2. Click on MagTek MICRSend.

The MICRSend program will appear on the screen, then should minimize to the System Tray at the bottom right of your screen. If it does not, close it and try again. If it fails again, close the program, disconnect the check reader, reconnect the check reader and try again.
