Health and Dental insurance deduction

Post by jordan2k510 »

Our pastor pays 10% of his monthly H/D insurance. The church writes a check each month for the total (which is the same each month.) How do I create this deduction in Payroll for him?

I am assuming that this is a pre-tax deduction ??

Then this thread will probably help:

This is also covered quite well in the Powerchurch manual, with examples.

This would not be a pretax deduction. I would do the following to set up the deduction.

First create a Liability account to hold the deduction until you are ready to make the insurance payment.

Second create a payroll item description for the deduction giving it a description such as "Health Ins." Select the deduction radio button - Tax Table NONE - Choose the new Liability account as your credit account. Under the W2 tab leave all the boxes unchecked.

Third add this item description to the Pastor's pay items and enter the amount of the deduction and select it to process.

When you make the payment for the insurance you will need to debit the payment to the liability account and the account that you pay the other 90% from.

Hope this helps.
